28/09/08 - Mens 1s vs Edinburgh Uni

With Allan and El Capitan, Murray back in the team, the guys were looking kick start their season with a win over one of the league title rivals.

It was a hard task to pick ourselves up after 2 terrible results, but as always WIT rose to the challenge. Edin Uni went 1-0 up within 15 mins after some slack defending, but we kept plugging away and got our rewards 10mins later.

A well worked short corner saw Jerome deflecting the ball home to set WIT on their way. 5 mins later and other short corner was converted with Cameron putting the ball low into the bottom corner.

2nd half saw the Uni guys press and press in what was a very exciting, open game of hockey. Ed Uni were unlucky to have a legitimate short corner conversion chopped off.

Cameron sealed the win after some good work down the left from Steven and Neil as Cam rounded the keeper to slot into the open goal.

What a turn around from Saturday!

WIT 3 - 1 Edin Uni

27/09/08 - Mens 1s vs Falkirk

Our first home game of the new season seemed to go from bad to worse, going 1-0 down fairly early on.A very very lack luster first have saw WIT 2nd to every ball and miles off the pace.

Falkirk were their usual tenatious selves with numerous "over zealous" challenges, including the latest craze to hit Falkirk, slide tackles!!

Falkirk went into the halftime break a deserved 2-0 up.

WIT came our for 2nd half with a new lease of life and sense of purpose, with a 20minute spell of un-relenting pressure. No goals were to come though, despite the Falkirk defence creaking.

2 breakaway goals as we pushed on resulted in a 4-0 score line. A very very poor start to the season, though I can't help but think with some stronger umpiring Falkirks spoiling tactics would of resulted in them not finishing the match with 11 men.

End Result 4-0 Falkirk

27/09/2008 - Ladies 3s vs Haddington 2s

A well fought match. We were a slight disadvantage, having only 8 players on the pitch. The first half finished up 3-1, after a goal from Laurie. In the 2nd half everyone continued to play well, unfortunately Haddington were awarded a penalty flick, (which due to the lack of goalie, was an easy shot for them!), and we finished up 7-1. Despite the score line, the team played well, will some excellent running from the forwards, and good passes through midfield.

20/09/08 - Womens 3s vs Grange Ladies 4s

A strong start to the season, with everyone playing well. With lots of encouragment from the defence (who had a rather quiet game), the mid-field and forwards played well. 3 goals from Julie (and about another 10 off target into the football nets) helped us on our way. A final score of 6-1 refleted a good effort from all.

20/09/08 - Mens 1s vs Airtricity Greenock

A small squad of 11 made the long trip to Largs for this game. Things started well with Cameron Scott scoring a reverse stick shot from Neils rebounded shot.

Greenock replied with a short corner goal and then disaster struck with young Scott badly twisting his ankle. Down to 10 in a very physcial game Greenock snuck an open play goal before half time, quite against the run of play despite us having 10 men.

After half time WIT game out all guns blazing and with 10men still created all the chances! Jerome slotted away a short corner rebound to level up the scores. As WIT pressed for the deserved win Greenock scored a "goal" with 10mins left. I use the term "goal" lightly as no one touched the ball in the 'D' instead the striker ran straight into Bruce.

Pretty much summed up the umpiring on the day, at one point there was talk of calling the police as some of the tackles were verging on GBH! Not a great start to the season, but in exceptional circumstances the guys did well and there was no lack of effort.

Onwards and upwards, hopefuly we can chalk up our first 3 points this coming weekend against Falkirk.

End Result 3-2 Greenock :-(
